Suicide rate of farmers rising
Rights of way officers on our Compliance and Enforcement courses will know that we emphasise awareness of the pressures farmers may be under and to be conscious that while an offence may have been committed in obstructing or failing to clear a public right of way, it may genuinely be that resolving it is one more task that never quite makes it to the top of the Urgent Jobs list, rather than deliberate intent.
Wicked Leeks sets out the situation in The silently rising suicide rate within the farming sector, and is worthwhile reading to help be alert to the need for understanding and sensitivity when carrying out duties to assert and protect rights of way.
