Working safely with volunteers
Everyone wants to achieve more work with fewer resources and an unpaid workforce seems the obvious answer but that still involves officer time to manage volunteers. We are working towards a protocol which any authority can tailor to their own requirements to ensure that both they and any volunteer group have the essentials in place. This webinar is the start, looking at safety, considering risk assessment, health and safety, certification, equipment, insurance and provisions on site.
Volunteers can apply themselves widely, beyond the obvious maintenance work and surveying, but potentially for desk-based tasks, e.g. in Kent, volunteers are checking for previously determined modification order applications, unconfirmed orders, definitive map making process records and highway maintenance records prior to an application being made or added to the register.
This series aims to increase and improve options for working with volunteers and decrease the administrative burden of doing so.

You need an internet connection, screen for viewing slides or images and audio, either speakers or headset. Ideally, you will also have a webcam and microphone but a camera is not essential, and input can be via typing in chat rather than speaking, or you can connect by phone.
